Its sunny and warm climate invites you to visit at any time of year.

Its rich architecture combines Muslim and Christian traditions, such as the Royal Alcázar (the official residence of the Spanish monarchs in the city) and its impressive Cathedral, the third largest Christian temple in the world, which explains Seville’s fascination for art history lovers.

For sports lovers, Seville has top-quality golf facilities and is home to two local football teams (Sevilla FC and Real Betis).

Seville is a perfect place to learn Spanish, as Seville was a port of the Indies since the discovery of America in 1492, so the American varieties of Spanish have their origins in the Sevillian language.

If, on the other hand, you prefer nature tourism, the Doñana National Park and the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park are located a short distance from the city.

Seville is a modern and vibrant city, considered an international benchmark for the sustainability of its urban planning and notable for its modern architectural projects (Jurgen Mayer, Zaha Hadid, Santiago Calatrava, etc.).

If you want to discover and explore Andalusia and Spain, Seville is the ideal city thanks to the number and quality of its hotels, as well as its connections to the rest of Spain’s major cities by train (Madrid, Córdoba, and nearby Málaga via high-speed rail).

History and Culture

Seville is considered a city almost 3,000 years old. The city existed in Roman times and grew in importance over time, even establishing itself there for a time. The great Amphitheater of Italica, just 3 km from the city center, bears witness to this period.

After the fall of the Roman Empire and the Visigothic period, Seville became a Muslim city for five hundred years (712-1248), which left important monuments such as the Royal Palace (Reales Alcázares), the Torre del Oro, and the famous Giralda (a former minaret that was later adapted as the bell tower of the Cathedral).

In 1248, the city was conquered by the Christian kingdom of Castile and León, whose kings expanded the Royal Palace with new buildings. In 1401, construction began on the important Cathedral, the third largest temple in Christianity.

The city’s greatest moment of splendor was the discovery of America. Seville became Spain’s inland port and, for 250 years, the Port of the Indies, enjoying a monopoly on trade with the new colonies. This period saw the rise of some of the most important artists in Spanish culture, such as Miguel de Cervantes and Diego Velázquez.

The 13th century saw the city’s decline when the Port of the Indies was moved to Cádiz, but notable buildings from this century include the Royal Tobacco Factory (workplace of the famous Carmen).

In the 20th century, Seville once again experienced a major urban development boom with two major international exhibitions: the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, whose architectural highlight is the Plaza de España, and the Universal Exposition of 1992, which provided the city with modern infrastructure such as the Alamillo Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava.

Seville has a significant tradition in the world of opera.

More than 50 classic operas are set in the city, including:

  • Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro
  • Bethoven’s Fidellio
  • Rossini’s The Barber of Seville
  • Bizet’s Carmen

Sevilla pa Svenska organizes opera-themed activities, such as guided tours of the opera’s actual locations, special dinners accompanied by private musical evenings, and, of course, ticket reservations for shows at its main theaters, including the Lope de Vega and the Maestranza.

In addition, we have extensive experience organizing concert tours for choirs, solo performers, and all types of musical ensembles. If you are interested in bringing your music to Spain, we will take care of everything: locating theaters, churches, venues, or other venues, advertising for your tour or performance, and all the logistics.

Nature

Seville is also the ideal destination for adventure and nature lovers, as it is located a short distance from Doñana National Park and the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park.

Doñana Park is located between Seville, Cádiz, and Huelva. It is a marshy area on the final stretch of the Guadalquivir River and is considered one of Europe’s main sanctuaries for migratory birds. Even the rare Iberian lynx finds refuge in this natural enclave, which is also home to herds of horses that the locals allow to breed in semi-freedom for much of the year.

Aracena Park is the natural habitat of the Iberian pig and boasts a beautiful network of trails that allow visitors to admire the numerous wild species of the local fauna, among which a good number of large birds of prey are easily visible.

Sevilla pa Svensa organizes all kinds of activities: hot air balloon rides, paintball, hunting and fishing trips, horseback riding and cycling, wildlife watching in their natural habitat, water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and sailing, hiking, and any other sports and adventure activity you can imagine.
